Description

Get all 376 of my recipes https://grandmaedithcooks.com/ (one payment of $17.99, digital downloads, 7-day money-back guarantee) Ten cheap, no-effort slow cooker suppers made from the cuts our grandmothers lived on and nobody tells you about anymore: leg quarters, turkey wings, beef shank, gizzards, neck bones, lentils and more. The price of every supper is included. For hundreds more suppers written for one or two people, Grandma Edith's cookbook is at grandmaedithcooks.com. $17.99, one time, no subscription, 7-day money-back guarantee. The ten suppers • 10. Chicken adobo: 2 1/2 lb leg quarters (skin off), 1/2 cup soy sauce (low-sodium), 1/2 cup white vinegar, garlic, bay leaves. Low 6 hours. • 9. Lentil soup: 1 cup brown lentils (rinsed, no soak), half a ring of smoked sausage, 1 carton broth plus 2 cups water, frozen onions and carrots. Low 6–7 hours. • 8. Turkey stuffed peppers: 4 peppers, 1 lb raw ground turkey mixed with 1/2 cup raw rice and half a jar of marinara, with the rest of the sauce around them. Low 6 hours, to 165°F. • 7. Smothered turkey wings: 2 wings, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1 packet brown gravy mix plus 1 cup water. Low 7–8 hours. • 6. Beef shank and barley soup: 1 beef shank, 1/2 cup pearl barley (not quick), frozen mixed vegetables, 1 carton beef broth plus 2 cups water. Low 8 hours, then shred the meat and stir in the marrow. • 5. Red beans and rice: 1 lb dried red kidney beans, soaked overnight and boiled hard for 10 minutes first, the other half of the sausage, frozen onions and peppers, Cajun seasoning, 6 cups water. Low 7–8 hours. Shortcut: 3 cans of rinsed beans, low 4 hours. • 4. Smothered chicken gizzards: 1 lb gizzards (rinsed), 1 packet brown gravy mix plus 1 1/2 cups water, frozen onions. Low 8 hours. • 3. Pepper steak: 1 lb round steak sliced thin by the butcher, frozen pepper and onion strips, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1 tbsp brown sugar and 1/2 cup water. Low 6–7 hours. Add 1 tbsp cornstarch in cold water, then 15 min on high. • 2. Tapioca pudding: 1/2 cup small pearl tapioca, 4 cups whole milk, 1/2 cup sugar. Low 2 1/2–3 hours. Temper 1 egg with hot pudding, stir it in with vanilla, and cook 15 min more. • 1. Pork neck bones: 1 lb whole small potatoes on the bottom, 2 lb neck bones on top with salt, pepper and garlic, 2 cups water. Low 7 hours, then add frozen green beans for 1 more hour. Safety notes • Raw red kidney beans must be boiled hard for 10 minutes before they go in a slow cooker. Canned beans are safe as they are. • Thaw all meat in the refrigerator first. • Check chicken, turkey and ground turkey for 165°F. • Soy sauce, gravy mix, sausage and Cajun seasoning are high in sodium. • Follow your doctor's advice first.
