Description

At 72 years old, Billy Waugh should have been enjoying retirement. Instead, he was climbing the mountains of Afghanistan alongside Special Forces operators half his age, hunting the same terrorist leader he had tracked nearly a decade earlier. His story reads less like a military career and more like a century-spanning adventure. Waugh survived combat in Korea, became one of the Army’s earliest Green Berets, was shot multiple times in Vietnam including a near-fatal head wound helped pioneer combat HALO parachute operations, conducted some of the most dangerous reconnaissance missions of the war, and later transitioned into the shadowy world of CIA operations. He spent years surveilling Osama bin Laden in Sudan, helped track down and capture the infamous terrorist Carlos the Jackal, and returned to the battlefield after 9/11 to join the hunt for al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Over a career spanning more than five decades, eight Purple Hearts, countless covert missions, and operations in dozens of countries, Billy Waugh became one of the most remarkable special operators in American history. This is the incredible true story of the Green Beret, spy, warrior, and legend who refused to quit—even when everyone else thought his war was over. - As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Docs sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect.
