Description

What really happens when people make their homes in the most extreme places on Earth? In this 4K documentary we travel to 30 places where people still live at the limits of human survival: from Oymyakon in Siberia, where temperatures once fell to around -71°C, to La Rinconada, the highest city in the world, and Pitcairn Island, home to only about 40 people in the middle of the Pacific. Some live beside active volcanoes with gas masks always within reach. Some live on islands made of reeds that slowly sink, in towns that can split open in an earthquake, or in villages cut off by snow for six months a year. And yet they stay, for gold, for fish, for fertile volcanic soil, or simply because this land is home. In this film: - Oymyakon, Russia: the coldest inhabited place on Earth - La Rinconada, Peru: 50,000 gold miners above 5,000 m - Tristan da Cunha and Pitcairn: the most remote communities on the planet - Coober Pedy, Australia: a town that moved underground - Aogashima and Miyakejima, Japan: life on active volcanoes - Grindavik, Iceland: a town that shakes and splits open - Tonle Sap and Iquitos: homes that float with the floods - Yanjin, China: the narrowest city on Earth - Shibam, Yemen: the mud skyscraper city - Pripyat and the Chernobyl zone, Ukraine ▶ Watch next: WHY THEY STAY | The Most Extreme Places on Earth People Refuse to Leave: https://youtu.be/S6ELmP50OBA STRANGEST TRIBES: https://youtu.be/LQeiE0NQBTY URBAN HELLS | Life in the Most Disgusting Places on Earth: https://youtu.be/2ShGongyAls Which of these places could you survive in for one year?
