Description

Every version of this trick ends the same way: soap in, hot water in, stopper out, a sink emptying as if nothing was ever wrong. The trick works. I use it. But two pieces get cut out, and they decide whether your pipe opens tonight. The first is the wait: ten still minutes after the soap goes in and before any water follows, where the work gets done. The second is what dish soap does. One end grabs grease, the other grabs water, so it lifts cold fat off the pipe wall and carries it away. It does nothing to hair, and in a bathroom it is nearly always hair. You were handed the trick without its order or its limits. Here are both, six drains, one bottle. DRAIN BY DRAIN: 1. THE KITCHEN SINK: strainer out, standing water scooped dry first, about a cup of soap, 10 minutes, then a bowlful of hot tap water dropped at once. Plug the second bowl. 2. THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL: 2 tablespoons of soap, a bowlful of hot water, the motor running while it drains, 30 seconds of cold water after. Never your hand in there. 3. THE BATHROOM SINK: the pop-up stopper lifts out and the hair mat with it, then a $3 barbed stick for the one below. Soap will not dissolve hair. 4. THE STANDPIPE BEHIND THE WASHER: hose out into a bucket, then half a cup of soap, 10 minutes, a gallon of hot tap water in one pour, then a rinse cycle you watch. 5. THE TOILET: half a cup of soap, 10 to 20 minutes with the lid down, then a gallon of hot tap water into the bowl from waist high. Soft clogs only. Bail a brimming bowl to half first. 6. THE CAN BY THE STOVE: fat into a coffee can while it is hot, pans wiped with paper before the dishwater, 2 tablespoons of soap monthly to keep the other five open. THE HARD NOS: · Never the kettle: porcelain cracks at the jump, pipe seals soften, the tap is hot enough. · Baking soda and vinegar cancel out to salt water. The hot water behind them did the work. · Septic tank: the big pour belongs to a sink in real trouble, not to a monthly routine. ⚠️ If a chemical opener is already down there, nothing follows it, not soap, not water, not a plunger: it burns and it splashes back. Keep children and pets out and call the plumber, as you do when nothing moves, when two fixtures back up together, or when a drain closes twice in a month. The gel is $10 to $15, the plumber $150 to $350, the bottle that does the same work $2 to $4. Tonight, mija, only the kitchen sink. When you pull that stopper, listen, then put the sound in the comments: the long gulp or the slow sigh. One means the fat let go, the other means a hand is still needed. Add your county too, because the age of a house is the age of its pipe. I read every one.
