Description
Head over to https://hensonshaving.com/2and20 and use code 2AND20 to get a free 100 pack of blades. That's about two years worth of shaving for free.
In May, consumer sentiment in the US hit the lowest level ever recorded, in data going back to 1952. Lower than 2008. Lower than the spring of 2020. Over the same stretch, American household wealth kept hitting all-time highs. Economists have a letter for how both are true at once: K.
We follow two brothers, Ryan and Bob, and the $1,200 stimulus check the government mailed most American adults in 2020. Ryan makes 67% more than Bob. Six years later, he is worth 17 times as much. The gap comes down to who owned assets when mortgage rates fell below 3%.
Along the way: how a 3% mortgage beats a raise, and why Bob's rent keeps climbing while Ryan's payment stays frozen. The Congressional Budget Office ran the numbers on the One Big Beautiful Bill: the top 10% of households come out about $13,600 a year ahead, and the bottom 10% about $1,200 behind.
Forbes puts the 400 richest Americans at a combined $8 trillion, and the very richest paid a true tax rate of 3.4% while the median household paid 14%. When doing everything right still leaves you 17 times behind, you stop trusting the rules. That is the K-shaped economy.
