Description
Ten seconds. Ten minutes. Now: forever.
At 7:42 one morning the world stops, and this time it never starts again. Every shop is free, every hotel suite is yours, every place on Earth is empty and waiting. You have all the time in the world, and nobody to spend it with. After four hundred days you finally find Vale, older than you ever imagined, and learn why the world stopped. Only one thing can make it move again, and it's yours to give.
Would you have given it up? Or kept forever? Tell me in the comments.
Part 3 of 3, the finale. Watch Parts 1 and 2 first.

🔬 Science notes
- There are about 8.2 billion people on Earth (UN estimate, 2025).
- The human body clock runs on a cycle of about 24.2 hours (Czeisler et al., 1999): without sunsets, your sleep slowly drifts.
- Earth's equator is about 40,075 km long. At 30 km a day, walking it would take about 3.7 years (ignoring the oceans).
- The Library of Congress holds more than 25 million catalogued books: at one a day, about 68,000 years.
- Mount Everest is 8,849 m tall (China-Nepal survey, 2020).
- Meteoroids hit Earth's atmosphere at about 11 to 72 km/s.
- Small hummingbirds can beat their wings up to around 80 times per second.
- Studies suggest long-term loneliness can be as harmful as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day (Holt-Lunstad et al., 2010).
This is a work of fiction based on real numbers. Characters and events are invented.
That's the end of the Stop Time trilogy. Subscribe for the next "what if", and tell me which one you want to live next.
