Egypt tried to erase their names from history once already, and today a civil war and decades of neglect are erasing their monuments again. This is the story of a forgotten dynasty that outbuilt the civilization it once ruled. Sudan holds roughly two hundred and fifty-five pyramids, more than Egypt's estimated one hundred and eighteen to one hundred and thirty-eight, with over two hundred clustered at the ancient site of Meroe alone. In this video we trace the rise and fall of Nubia's twenty-fifth dynasty, from Piye's conquest of a fractured Egypt, to Shabaka's revival of the pyramid as a royal burial form, to Taharqa's massive tomb at Nuri aligned with the sunrise on Egyptian New Year's Day. We follow the dynasty south to Meroe, where the Kingdom of Kush reinvented itself as an iron-smelting power with its own unread script, and where the warrior queen Amanirenas fought the Roman Empire to a standstill and won. Then we look at what is happening to these pyramids right now, as Sudan's civil war leaves one of the ancient world's largest pyramid fields undefended against sand, salt, and looters. If you love uncovering the ancient history that mainstream textbooks leave out, subscribe to Buried Signal for more deep dives into lost civilizations, forbidden archaeology, and unexplained ancient mysteries. Let us know in the comments which part of Sudan's pyramid history surprised you most, and give this video a like if you want to see more overlooked civilizations get the attention they deserve. For forty-eight more ancient sites where the physical evidence still does not match the official story, check out our new eBook, The Atlas of Impossible Places, available now at https://buriedsignal.gumroad.com/l/vnxkzx #Sudan #Pyramids #AncientEgypt #Nubia #KingdomOfKush #Meroe #AncientHistory #LostCivilizations #Archaeology #AncientMysteries
