Orpheus and Eurydice: Did She Want to Come Back?

The most famous love story in mythology was actually her escape gone wrong. 📚 SOURCES: This episode draws from Virgil's Georgics Book 4 and Ovid's Metamorphoses Book 10 (the canonical tragic versions), AND Plato's Symposium (the older Greek philosophical critique calling Orpheus a coward), alongside modern reinterpretation from contemporary scholars. Both ancient and modern perspectives are explored. In this episode of Mortal Myths, we examine what the ancient texts actually say versus what the popular myth hides: ▸ Eurydice as nymph erased by marriage ▸ The serpent bite and her arrival in the underworld ▸ Persephone welcoming her as a sister (continuity from Episode 3) ▸ Hades's fair deal and Orpheus's doubt ▸ The look back: tragedy or liberation? ▸ Plato's ancient critique that Orpheus was a coward 🏛️ Subscribe for mythology REIMAGINED, exploring how ancient stories speak to modern audiences. ⚡ Episode 1 — Zeus vs Cronus: https://youtu.be/3RltXvfXj6c 🐍 Episode 2 — Medusa: https://youtu.be/B3iPGQxcvzE 🌹 Episode 3 — Hades and Persephone:https://youtu.be/AAu4P2wSSAA 📦 Episode 4 — Pandora's Box: https://youtu.be/VFLHu54lx0s Did Orpheus lose her, or did Eurydice finally choose?
