Description
Armored trains were moving fortresses, but every weapon they carried was shaped by one permanent weakness: they could never leave the rails.
This military history documentary explains the weapons used on armored trains, from rifle ports and Maxim machine guns to autocannons, field guns, howitzers, anti-tank turrets, anti-aircraft cannon, mortars, rocket artillery, and guided anti-tank missiles.
Along the way, we examine British armored trains in South Africa, Poland’s Danuta, Soviet BP-43 trains and rocket-armed formations, Germany’s BP-44, the French Foreign Legion’s La Rafale in Indochina, and the Krajina Express. We also separate true armored-train weapons from massive railway artillery such as the Schwerer Gustav.
The final question is not simply how much firepower a train could carry, but how all those weapons worked together when the entire fighting system still depended on two narrow rails remaining intact.
