Description

A brown line rises above Phoenix. People stop to look, then run for shelter. By the time it reaches your roof, you can barely see your hand. A haboob is a wall of dust driven by thunderstorm outflow. On July 5, 2011, NWS Phoenix estimated the storm's peak height from radar at at least 5,000-6,000 feet, about 1,500-1,800 metres. Reports described near-zero visibility across the area. This rooftop and its people are imagined. The storm's arrival is compressed, and the changing visibility readings are illustrative. The scene is not a reconstruction of the 2011 event.
