Description

I spent days exploring deep into remote desert canyons, hiking farther from civilization in search of ancient sites hidden throughout the American Southwest. Eventually, high above the canyon floor, I spotted something incredible built directly into the cliffs. To reach it, I had to climb high into the sandstone cliffs above a massive canyon drop. What I found was an incredibly preserved ancient cliff dwelling hidden beneath a rock overhang, with stone rooms, doorways, walls, and evidence left behind by the ancient people who once lived here. In this adventure, I explore the surrounding canyon, climb into the cliffs, and take a closer look at this rarely seen archaeological site while trying to understand how people managed to build and live in such an extreme location hundreds of years ago. The American Southwest is filled with ancient ruins, Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, Native American archaeological sites, petroglyphs, pictographs, pottery, rock shelters, and mysterious structures hidden throughout the desert. Some of these places require days of backcountry hiking and canyon exploration just to reach. This was one of the most incredible ancient sites I encountered during my journey through the canyons. Seeing something like this still standing high above the desert after centuries makes you wonder how many more forgotten places are hidden in these cliffs. Subscribe for more remote canyon exploration, ancient civilizations, archaeology, hidden ruins, cliff dwellings, desert adventures, backcountry hiking, caves, rock art, and forgotten places across the American Southwest. #AncientRuins #CliffDwellings #CanyonExploration
