Description
How France Built a Bridge Taller Than the Eiffel Tower — That Floats Above the Clouds
In the south of France, a single bridge support rises higher than the Eiffel Tower — and on foggy mornings, its seven towering piers vanish completely, leaving the roadway floating on nothing but cloud. The Millau Viaduct was built to end one town's decades-long traffic nightmare, using a construction method — incremental launching — nobody had attempted at this scale before, pushing the entire steel-and-concrete deck out over an open valley from both sides until it met in the middle to a tolerance of just a few centimeters. This is the story of how France built the tallest bridge on Earth, finished two months ahead of schedule.
