Description
Mortal Shell 2 might be one of the most frustrating Soulslikes I’ve ever played, and somehow, I still loved it.
After spending around 40 hours exploring its open world, experimenting with different Shells, weapons, Tarstones, and fighting some absolutely ridiculous bosses, I have a LOT to say about Mortal Shell 2.
The game has some genuinely great ideas: unique Shell abilities, no stamina system, flexible builds, satisfying visceral attacks, meaningful exploration, and some of the coolest weapons I’ve seen in a Soulslike. But it’s also held back by repetitive enemies, questionable boss design, broken AI, frustrating hitboxes, camera problems, and some seriously unbalanced encounters.
So is Mortal Shell 2 actually worth $50? And does it do enough to stand out in a genre dominated by games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Lies of P, Bloodborne, and Sekiro?
In this review, I break down everything Mortal Shell 2 gets right, everything that drove me insane, and whether I think Soulslike fans should actually buy it.
If you’ve played Mortal Shell 2, let me know what you think in the comments. What Shell are you using, and which boss gave you the most trouble?
