I Adopted a Dog with Social Anxiety, Here’s What Happened

Our dog adoption story began when we brought home a tiny rescue puppy at only two weeks old. As a couple navigating pet parenthood, we watched him grow into a loving family dog but he was also a shy, who trusted almost nobody outside our home. We took him everywhere elevators, parking lots, busy malls, parks, and everyday walks. But whenever strangers or children came close, his social anxiety kicked in and he stayed glued to Dad. Yet the moment we stepped through our front door, he became a completely different dog playful, mischievous, affectionate, and full of personality. We wondered what could help him feel more confident. Someone suggested getting another pet, so we brought home a cat and everything changed! They became best friends, and our cat brought out a whole new side of him.
