Description
Northern Missouri is where a continental ice sheet came to a stop, and everything north of that line is built from what the glacier left behind and what the wind blew on top of it. The result is some of the most valuable farmland in America, a soil layer that acts like a sealed floor, almost no usable groundwater, and land that pension funds and investors now buy by the quarter section.
In this video, we break down why Northern Missouri is sitting on some of the most valuable land in human history. We start with the ancient seas that left coal and firebrick clay, then the glacier that stopped along the Missouri River and the loess soil that rivals Ukraine's. Next comes the claypan that traps water, the salty groundwater nobody can drink, and the reservoirs built to replace it. Finally, we look at trophy whitetail hunting, black walnut timber, hog production, ethanol, wind power and data centers, and the one number that explains it all.
📍 In this video:
- The glacial line that splits Missouri in two
- The coal towns and the Firebrick Capital of the World
- Why loess soil sits under every great grain belt on Earth
- The claypan: Missouri's state soil and its biggest problem
- Why much of Northern Missouri can't drink its own groundwater
- How the Missouri River was rebuilt, and what it did to flooding
- The black walnut trees worth more than the land they stand on
- Farmland as an asset class, crop insurance and CRP payments
- Trophy deer, hog farms, ethanol, wind power and data centers
