Description

On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds after liftoff. The world assumed the crew died instantly. NASA's own investigation tells a different story. The crew cabin separated from the orbiter intact and fell for two minutes and forty-five seconds before striking the Atlantic Ocean. When recovery teams reached the wreckage on the ocean floor, they found that three Personal Egress Air Packs had been manually activated — meaning at least three crew members were conscious and trying to survive after the explosion. NASA's official cause of death for all seven astronauts remains undetermined to this day. This video examines what the physical evidence actually shows, why NASA fought media requests for the autopsy reports in court, what the recovery team found inside the cabin and was asked not to discuss, and what the largest salvage operation in U.S. Navy history uncovered 87 feet underwater — 17 miles off the Florida coast. This is the Challenger story that has never been told through a forensic lens. Funeral Report covers the cases the death care system leaves behind.
