Description
He retired to the Philippines with a monthly income of $2,700, planning to marry the Filipina woman he loved. She believed they could afford a comfortable home, a vehicle, a small business, and a future together.
What she didn't know was that nearly half of his retirement income was already committed to debts, medical bills, insurance, and financial obligations back in America.
During his visits, he paid for hotels, restaurants, trips, gifts, and help for her family. It gave her the impression that this vacation lifestyle would simply continue after retirement. But once he moved permanently, everyday expenses began to reveal the truth.
He questioned grocery bills, kept delaying the search for a rental home, and pushed back every plan they had made together. Then one notification on his phone led her to ask the question he had been dreading: how much money did he really have?
This original first-person story explores retirement in the Philippines, relationships between foreigners and Filipinas, financial expectations, and the gap between vacation spending and the real cost of building a life abroad.
Could you forgive someone who hid his finances out of shame, or would the lack of honesty be enough to end the relationship?
