Description

Institutionalised r@cism persists through everyday culture and language - says Barbadian PM Mia Mottley. Centuries of slavery, where the Caribbean and North America received captive Africans, led to the codification of a r@cial hierarchy - even after so-called emancipation. Jim Crow laws (state and local laws introduced in the Southern United States from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century that enforced racial segregation) entrenched the r@cism. Today, systemic bias persists. As an example, Black people in the US are incarcerated at state rates nearly five times that of whites. Video credit: LSE
