When DOUBTING Jalen Brunson Cost The League EVERYTHING

Jalen Brunson was told he was too small to become an NBA superstar. Eight years later, he made the entire league regret doubting him. Despite winning two national championships at Villanova, Brunson fell to the 33rd pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Scouts questioned his athleticism, the Dallas Mavericks let him walk, and when the New York Knicks gave him $104 million, critics thought they had made a massive mistake. But Jalen Brunson kept proving everyone wrong. From his breakout performances in Dallas to becoming the face of the New York Knicks, Brunson turned every criticism into another reason to believe. Yet even after becoming one of the NBA's best playoff performers, one question remained: Could a team actually win an NBA championship with Jalen Brunson as its best player? Then came the 2026 NBA Finals against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. Facing a seemingly impossible 29-point deficit in Game 4, the Knicks pulled off a historic comeback. And in Game 5, Brunson delivered 45 points to lead New York to its first NBA championship in 53 years, earning Finals MVP and completing one of basketball's greatest underdog stories. This is the story of how Jalen Brunson went from being overlooked, underestimated, and doubted to becoming an NBA champion — and why doubting him cost the league everything. 🏀 Subscribe for more cinematic NBA stories, forgotten moments, and the stories behind basketball's biggest games!
