Description

every old way written down: https://oldmexicanway.com When I was fifteen, my mother looked at the chair with every shirt I owned piled on it and told me no decent man would ever marry a girl who lived like that. She was wrong. But I was the daughter of the most orderly woman in Guadalajara, and I was messy for fifty years. What ended it was not a label maker or a closet system. It was ten tiny tricks my mother did every day without thinking. I watched her do them my whole childhood, and I only asked her to teach me when I was fifty. There is no such thing as a messy person. A tidy house is a handful of small tricks that somebody hands you, and nobody handed them to you. THE 10 TINY TRICKS 1️⃣ ¿Cuánto te tardas? Ask how long it really takes, and say the seconds out loud. 2️⃣ Lo que se agarra, se acomoda. What you pick up, you put away. One touch, not two. 3️⃣ Nunca con las manos vacías. Never cross a room with empty hands, and keep a basket at the stairs. 4️⃣ El trapo en el hombro. The rag on the shoulder turns every spill into three seconds. 5️⃣ Mientras hierve. While the pot boils, the counter gets done. 6️⃣ Cada quien su plato. Everybody carries their own plate, and the children get a shelf they can reach. 7️⃣ The saucer by the door. How my father, the messiest man in Jalisco, never lost his keys in forty years. 8️⃣ The envelope over the trash can. Paper never touches the table. 9️⃣ La pasada. Ten minutes before bed, timed by one song, and when the song ends, you stop. 🔟 It was never ten tricks. It was one. The small things by day keep the ten minutes at night from becoming a wall. The honest word: if the mess came with grief, depression, or a mind that simply will not start, that is not laziness. That is a doctor, with no shame. Order is a habit, not a standard, and a habit waits for you. Who profits: the $100-an-hour organizer, the bins, the label maker, the app, and the storage unit with a bill every month. Nobody makes a dollar from a woman with a saucer, a rag on her shoulder and one song. Tonight, do one: pick one song. Start it before bed in the room you stopped looking at, and walk the house until the song ends. Which pile is yours? What song would you play? Tell me, and your county. I read every one.
