Will Suliman Carrim Get Bail? 5 Bags, Snacks & A One-Way Ticket?

Sulliman Carrim, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, Brown Mogotsi, Senzo Mchunu, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, Captain Kubayi and Advocate Hendrik Potgieter are all connected to a dramatic story involving the Madlanga Commission, a R10 million deal, missed appearances — and an arrest at OR Tambo International Airport. Sulliman Carrim was preparing to leave South Africa when police arrested him at OR Tambo International Airport. But was he trying to flee? Or was this a legitimate overseas trip that police interpreted very differently? In this video, I break down Carrim’s arrest, his links to Cat Matlala, the controversial R10 million deal involving Medicare24, why the Madlanga Commission laid criminal charges against him, and the extraordinary arguments made during his bail hearing. The State raised concerns about Carrim travelling overseas after repeatedly failing to return to the Madlanga Commission. Then came the luggage. Police referred to at least FIVE bags and a flight to Dubai. Carrim’s explanation? He told the court that much of the luggage contained sweets, snacks and food for children in Pakistan as part of charitable work. His defence also produced an itinerary showing that Dubai was only one leg of a wider journey through Saudi Arabia and Pakistan — with Carrim allegedly scheduled to return to South Africa on 28 October. But prosecutors had another major question: If Carrim was allegedly too unwell to return to the Madlanga Commission, how was he well enough to undertake international travel? The hearing also explored subpoenas delivered to his home, his wife’s role in handling his affairs, questions about where he actually lives, disputed properties, older cases identified during police checks and whether the State had done enough investigation before opposing his immediate release. Carrim ultimately did NOT receive a final bail decision. Instead, his bail application was postponed while investigators verify crucial information — including his travel documents.
