🔧 Everything I learned fixing HVAC for 25 years, in one plain-English book.
📘 THE HVAC SURVIVAL GUIDE - get it here: https://raydutton.com
That snap of static off the doorknob is dry winter air, and it's why so many furnaces have a humidifier on the ductwork beside them. It runs water over a pad while warm air blows through it. When that water goes anywhere but your air or the drain, it runs into the furnace, and a twenty-dollar pad turns into a control board that can cost seven hundred dollars.
I spent twenty-five years walking up to wet furnaces in the winter. In this video I go through the five humidifier mistakes I saw rust them out: the dial everybody reads like a thermostat, the humidifier wired to the fan instead of the heat, the pad nobody changed, the drain hose, and the slow leak inside you can't see from outside.
For each one I show you how to check it yourself, what the fix costs, and the right setting for dry air. At 20 degrees outside, that's about 35 percent humidity inside.
