Description

In this video, I take on one of the biggest problems with my rescued 1968 Case 580CK tractor — the contaminated fluid in the torque tube and shuttle clutch system. When I first rescued this tractor from the bushes, the starter had been removed, leaving an opening where rainwater could get into the shuttle clutch mechanism inside the torque tube. When I drained the fluid, it looked like a brown milkshake — classic emulsified oil caused by water contamination. Unfortunately, even though the engine runs, the tractor has never been able to move forward or reverse. My suspicion is that the water-contaminated, emulsified oil is causing the forward and reverse shuttle clutches to slip and is preventing the tractor from moving properly. So, in this video, I'm attempting to flush the contaminated fluid by: 🔧 Filling the torque tube with fresh universal tractor fluid 💧 Draining the contaminated fluid 🚜 Running the tractor between drain cycles 🔄 Repeating the fill-and-drain process several times 👀 Checking to see if the fluid becomes progressively cleaner ⚙️ And, hopefully, getting the forward/reverse shuttle working again! Link to video Mentioned about making a bracket for the alternator: https://youtu.be/1OE-1rD01EY?si=Rq96NBSUZl8TkgBJ Using the Correct Fluid The Case 580CK requires the proper hydraulic/transmission fluid for the shuttle system. Case recommends Case IH Hy-Tran Universal Tractor Fluid, but it can be quite expensive. For this flush, I'm trying a more affordable Universal Tractor Fluid from Walmart that meets the specifications required for Hy-Tran-type applications. Will it work? That's what we're about to find out! My hope is that removing as much of the emulsified oil and water contamination as possible will allow the forward and reverse clutch packs to operate properly again. This is another step in bringing this old Case 580CK back to life after years sitting abandoned in the bushes. Will the 580CK finally move under its own power? Let's find out!
