Description
Legendary makeup artist Rick Baker brought absolute madness to the practical effects on Men in Black, proving that no detail was too small to deserve an over-the-top practical creation. For the famous scene where an alien corpse opens its face to reveal a tiny pilot operating a mechanical control room inside a human head, Baker’s crew didn't just scale down a small puppet—they actually built a massive, oversized animatronic alien head so that every tiny eye movement, breath, and twitch could be controlled by a complex team of puppeteers using servomotors on set. To make it look miniature on screen, director Barry Sonnenfeld filmed the massive rig and optically shrunk the footage to fit right inside the actor's skull. Baker’s team spent up to eight hours applying heavy prosthetic layers, latex skins, and specialized mechanical riggings for background aliens that only appeared on screen for a split second, treat every brief passerby like a blockbuster lead creature. Seeing Rick Baker spend months building a massive animatronic alien head with full servomotors just to shrink it down into a five-second scene inside a human skull is pure gold. #rickbaker #meninblack #practicaleffects #hollywood #behindthescenes #funny #viral #funnymoments #shorts #comedy #interview #latenight #celebritystories
