Description
At 73, Dorothy thought a luxury condo in Bonifacio Global City, Manila would be her fresh start after leaving Ohio behind. Instead, she found the same noisy, concrete life she was trying to escape. Everything changed when a Filipina friend invited her to a mountain village in Mindanao — a place her own government's travel advisory tells Americans to stay away from. Her kids pleaded with her not to go. She went anyway. What waited for her there gave her back things she didn't know she'd lost: real sleep, better health, and a sense of home she'd never felt in America. Five years on, the same children who once sent armed guards to bring her back now can't wait for their next visit.
This is a dramatized first-person story inspired by real experiences of American retirees in the Philippines.
