Description

A pillar at Karahan Tepe, on a hill in the same part of Turkey as Göbekli Tepe, came out of the bedrock with a face looking back. Göbekli's stone giants have arms and hands, and not one of them has a face. This video climbs the hill an archaeologist found in 1997 by counting 266 stone stumps. A space sealed with red soil, with foxes left inside in their pelts. Thieves who reached the carvings first, and villagers who wouldn't plough round two stones they took for graves. A man's head growing out of a rock-cut wall. A 2.3-metre stone man with his ribs and spine showing, and the photos that went out with a piece of him missing. Göbekli Tepe's first life-size statue, built into a wall. Graham Hancock, Netflix and the archaeologists. A room under stone slabs that was meant to be opened this season. Then the face itself, and what the excavation director's own paper says about how these people ended a room.
