Description

He has nine days left, a calendar almost colored in, and a whole platoon treating him like glass. The last days of a Vietnam tour have a reputation as the most dangerous of all. But the story about short-timers dying in droves, and the rule that supposedly pulled every short man off the line, do not survive contact with the record. What the Army's own reports and psychiatrists show is stranger. Every claim sourced. → There is no verified "last 30 days" death percentage. No one has published a month-of-tour breakdown of the 58,220 casualty files. The best proxy, a Navy study of 2,021 wounded men at Da Nang in 1968, points to the first four months. → No MACV, Army or Marine Corps directive pulling short-timers out of the field turned up in our research. The stand-downs were real, but they were informal. → Golden Flow did not catch "huge numbers." The cumulative confirmed rate was 1.8% by July 1972, though some months ran far higher. → Spitting at returning soldiers is not documented by news reports from the time. Individual accounts exist and cannot be ruled out. We put everything we had into this book, for the men and for the families who never got the story: The Documented History of MACV-SOG in Vietnam. Every claim sourced. Get it at https://www.truevietnamdocs.com (most books about $7 to $8, close to half off your first order). Every purchase keeps this channel researching. Thank you.
