Born in Street Fights, Still Trained by Soldiers Today #savate #boxefrancaise #shorts

Savate — French for “old shoe” — is a striking martial art that grew out of 19th century French street fighting, where fighters used both their fists and their feet, striking with the toe, heel, and sole of the shoe rather than bare-knuckle punches alone. In the 1830s, French fighter Charles Lecour trained in English boxing and blended its punching techniques into the existing kicking style, helping popularize what became known as “boxe française,” building on groundwork laid by his own teacher, Michel Casseux. The discipline eventually found a home in the French military, including with the Chasseurs Alpins, France’s elite mountain infantry formed on December 24, 1888, specifically to defend the Alpine frontier against a possible Italian invasion. Despite its rich history and practical combat techniques, savate remains far less recognized globally than boxing or Muay Thai — a style that deserves far more credit than it typically gets. #martialarts #savate #boxefrancaise #frenchmilitary #chasseursalpins #combatsport #boxing #muaythai #militaryhistory #documentary #education #fighting #historylovers #fyp #edit #phonk #memes #didyouknow #underrated
