Description

Does the Bible actually endorse slavery? In this debate at Texas State University, atheist Matt Dillahunty challenges Christianity on one of the Bible’s most difficult moral questions: slavery. Matt argues that secular morality provides a better foundation for rejecting slavery and claims that Christians abandoned the practice largely because of secular moral progress. Christian pastor and apologist Cliffe Knechtle responds by arguing that objective human dignity requires a foundation beyond human preference — and later turns directly to the New Testament letter of Philemon. But Matt pushes back again, pointing to other difficult biblical passages. In this episode of The Christian Take, we let both sides make their case and examine what the Christian response actually needs to address.
