Description
Most women use Vaseline for wrinkles the wrong way, and that is the whole reason the jar sitting in the bathroom never seemed to do much. In this one, Janet gives Black women the honest version of Vaseline for aging skin: what a two dollar jar of plain petroleum jelly can really do for fine lines and crepey skin, and the everyday mistakes that keep it from working.

You will hear the seven ways women use Vaseline on the face wrong, and how to fix each one: why it goes on damp skin and never on dry, why a thin coat beats a thick one, why Vaseline is a seal and not a moisturizer, exactly where to put it on the under eyes, the lip border, the neck, and the hands, and the layering order that finally makes it work. Janet walks Black women through Vaseline slugging the way the old grandmothers did it long before it had a trendy name, and she is honest about what it cannot do. She debunks the Vaseline and lemon trick for dark spots, the notion that it grows your eyelashes, and the old fear that petroleum is bad for your skin. Then she lays out the whole way our mothers kept their skin soft past eighty, the sun, the satin, the gentle handling, that a jar of Vaseline only sits inside. If you have been using Vaseline for wrinkles and getting nothing back, this is the honest correction, woman to woman, for us.

Petroleum jelly (white petrolatum), dermatology research. An occlusive that reduces transepidermal water loss from the skin by as much as 98 percent, which is how it seals in moisture rather than adding any.
Phytophotodermatitis (Cleveland Clinic, National Capital Poison Center). Lemon and other citrus juice left on the skin, followed by sun exposure, can cause a phototoxic burn and lasting brown hyperpigmentation.
Vaseline history. Robert Chesebrough refined petroleum jelly from oil-field residue and patented the process in 1872; it has been a household skin protectant ever since. Stock footage from Pexels (pexels.com)
