Description

Coconut oil works as a pre-wash oil, warmed and smoothed down damp hair before the shampoo, never as an every-morning grease on dry hair. You'll hear the other reasons coconut oil stops working on our hair: cold weather turning it solid, buildup on low porosity hair, coconut stacked in every product on the shelf, gray hair that has changed, and a flaky scalp that oil can feed. She also turns over the hair grease with a coconut on the label and petrolatum listed first, and explains what a study found about coconut oil against mineral oil.
Then the full coconut oil hair routine for Black women over 55, step by step, from the seven-dollar jar to the towel, plus the week of habits that keeps breakage down and length on: gentle washing, satin at night, low heat, and loose styles. It closes with the patch test and the scalp signs that call for a dermatologist instead.
