Description

Flash flooding across Texas and Arizona has swept away vehicles, stranded campers, damaged buildings, and pushed rivers toward record levels. On Friday, October 16, 2026, flood warnings remained active across parts of Texas, while the Rio Grande near Big Bend was forecast to rise to approximately 17.5 feet. Officials continued monitoring rivers and waterways as runoff moved downstream. In Arizona, remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought heavy rainfall that turned normally dry washes into dangerous flood channels. Five people stranded near Lake Havasu City were rescued by helicopter after floodwaters carried away their Jeep. Near Sedona, rising Oak Creek trapped 65 people at Cave Springs Campground before a front loader cleared the bridge and campers began leaving. In this video, we cover Arizona's flash flood rescues, the campers stranded near Sedona, severe storms across West Texas, and the river levels threatening communities and roads. Texas experienced additional damage from a microburst in Odessa, a tornado in Fort Stockton, and intense rainfall around Midland and the Rolling Plains. Some locations recorded more than five inches of rain in 24 hours, while rapidly rising rivers forced highway closures. Emergency crews staged boats and helicopters to assist people caught in floodwaters. As the flooding continues, forecasters are watching additional river crests and possible showers in Arizona. Strong winds are also expected near Tucson, while Beaver Creek near Electra, Texas, remains forecast to approach its previous high-water mark on Sunday. Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
