Description
Imagine traveling around the entire world without leaving your screen—not by looking at photographs or visiting famous places, but by listening to the borders of countries.
This video brings together 237 countries and territories, transforming their geographic borders, coastlines, and unique outlines into visual waveforms and synthetic sounds.
Every country has its own geographical identity. Some have long, irregular coastlines, others have sharp borders, scattered islands, or surprisingly simple outlines. Here, those differences become something you can actually hear.
HOW THE WORLD MAP BECOMES SOUND
The journey begins with a world map.
One by one, the outlines of 237 countries and territories are traced, following the curves, corners, coastlines, and boundaries that define their shapes.
These geographic outlines are represented as mathematical paths. Their changing coordinates are translated into waveforms, which are then used to generate synthetic audio.
The animations connect each country's visible outline with its corresponding sound, turning geography into a unique audiovisual experience.
YOUR TURN!
Which country's outline created the most interesting sound?
Tell me your country and your favorite sound in the comments!
