Description

255 FLAGS. 255 VISUAL PATTERNS. A WHOLE NEW WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE WORLD. Every flag tells a story through its colors and symbols. But underneath those designs lies something else: geometry. And geometry can be translated into sound. For this project, I brought together 255 flags from around the world and explored their designs from a completely different perspective. Instead of looking at flags as national symbols alone, I treated them as collections of lines, curves, angles, and repeating patterns that could become audible signals. FROM FLAG DESIGN TO SOUND The experiment begins with the visual structure of each flag. Horizontal and vertical stripes, diagonal divisions, crosses, stars, circles, crescents, and detailed emblems all contribute different geometric features. Each design is traced to produce a changing mathematical pattern. That pattern is then translated into a waveform and used to generate synthetic audio. The animation follows the visual transformation, connecting what you see on the screen with what you hear through your speakers. MORE THAN A FLAG EXPERIMENT This project brings together geometry, creative coding, mathematical visualization, digital art, and sound synthesis. It isn't an attempt to recreate the real sounds of countries or cultures. The audio is an artistic interpretation generated from the visual properties of flag designs. Now I'm curious about your experience: Did a simple design surprise you, or did a complicated flag produce exactly the kind of sound you imagined? Share your favorite flag and your country in the comments. I'd love to know which patterns stood out to you. #WorldFlags #FlagsAsSounds #FlagSonification #DataSonification #CreativeCoding #SoundVisualization #MathematicalArt #Geometry #VisualMusic #GenerativeArt #SoundDesign #AudioVisual #ShapesAsWaves #Geography #OddlySatisfying
