Description

In 2019, Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife Amy, and their young daughter survived a violent crash and fire after their Cessna Citation Latitude ran off the runway at Elizabethton, Tennessee. But the accident began long before touchdown. This video reconstructs the approach, the excessive speed and energy, the decision not to go around, the unusual thrust-reverser sequence, and the extraordinary chain of events that turned a bad landing into a catastrophic crash. It also examines Earnhardt’s own remarkably candid account of the decisions that led up to the flight—and how everyone aboard somehow escaped alive. The accident is also part of a troubling history of aviation crashes connected with NASCAR, including nine crashes and 22 fatalities over roughly the past quarter century.
