Ted Cassidy Was 6'9"… Hollywood Knew Exactly What to Do With Him

At 6'9", Ted Cassidy was impossible to overlook. His towering height made him perfect for the role of Lurch, the unforgettable butler from *The Addams Family*. But Lurch wasn't originally supposed to have the deep voice that became his trademark. Cassidy improvised it—and that unexpected choice helped turn the character into one of television's most recognizable figures. He also contributed to Thing and built a career around his extraordinary presence. But behind the comedy was a much more complicated reality, as Cassidy's unusual size was accompanied by serious health problems. He was only 46 when his life came to an end. #TedCassidy #Lurch #TheAddamsFamily #OldHollywood #ClassicTV #HollywoodHistory #TVHistory #Shorts #ytshorts
