Description
Why is Gen Z struggling to afford a place to live? For an entire generation, moving out, renting an apartment, and eventually buying a home were supposed to be milestones of becoming an adult. But for millions of young adults, that dream is becoming harder to reach.
In this documentary, we investigate the Gen Z housing crisis and how rising rent, expensive homes, stagnant wages, inflation, student debt, and the broader cost-of-living crisis are reshaping what it means to be independent.
More young adults are living with their parents, moving back home, sharing apartments with multiple roommates, couch surfing, living in vans or cars, and constantly moving from one temporary situation to another. And while many of these people aren't technically homeless, they may be experiencing something that looks increasingly like hidden homelessness.
So what happened?
Why has housing become so expensive? Why can't Gen Z afford to move out? Is homeownership becoming a privilege rather than a realistic goal? And is couch surfing the new form of homelessness?
This isn't simply a story about houses.
It's about work, money, adulthood, independence, relationships, family, and the future of an entire generation.
Topics covered: Gen Z housing crisis, housing affordability, homelessness, hidden homelessness, rent crisis, cost of living, homeownership, young adults living with parents, couch surfing, van life, housing market, inflation, wages, student debt, and the future of Gen Z.
