Description

As requested a few of you guys (@sam8551 and @samroesch) wanted to see how I set up and modified my furnace and all the random gear I use to do metal casting. If you are looking to get into casting on the cheap, the Vevor double burner furnace is a great starting point at under 170 bucks for the kit. I posted the 3d print files for the chimney and plinth block molds over on my Patreon. You can download them for free. https://www.patreon.com/MacGarvins/posts/furnace-chimney-170408281?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link You will need additional supplies to get started, sodium silicate for rigidizing the mineral wool, as well as some satanite to add a hardcoat onto the wool. Then of course a propane tank, you can get by with one off the BBQ for small melts. But when you decide to step up to full crucibles you will need an rv size tank. At first I would recommend getting a 10 pound bag of commercial casting sand and the small iron flask so you can get started with success. Once you get a feel for the process you can experiment with diy gear. You should also have a good pair of insulated gloves and make a pouring shank and lifting tongs. You will figure out pretty quickly where the problems lie. As an aside, do not pour over concrete, do not introduce water to the melt in the form of wet metal or any other form for that matter, Pre Heat Everything. Be SAFE. You WILL spill at some point...prepare yourself so that when it happens its just inconvenience and not a life changing moment. I've included links below to all the stuff I bought from Amazon. As an Amazon affiliate I do get a commission if you buy from the links. If you would like to support the channel its an easy way to do so at no extra cost to you.
