I’m Ellsworth Tidwell, and I share the traditional gunsmithing methods I learned near the Texas Gulf Coast. I explain why a brass brush, oil, and even an old copper penny can remove surface rust without damaging the bluing, along with how to find rust hidden under wood and inside the bore. I also cover humidity, condensation, leather holsters, gun cabinets, old cosmoline, truck racks, soft cases, and salty fingerprints. Most importantly, I show the simple oily-rag habit that helped an old pump shotgun survive decades in a coastal marsh, plus a five-minute monthly inspection for your own guns.
