Description

Subscribe:https://www.youtube.com/c/CreatureChallenge Animals often get overhyped by wildlife content creators and all throughout the internet. This video is aimed at going over and myth busting the 5 most overrated animals on the internet in terms of strength and capabilities. Scroll through enough media, and you’d believe a gorilla can bench press a ton or a honey badger is immortal. This video aims to talk scientifically about animal facts and expose the internet's favorite animals. The animals discussed are silverback gorillas, chimpanzees, crocodilians, Siberian tigers, and honey badgers. Gorillas: They are one of my favorite animals. I don’t wanna do this, but y'all act like a Silverback is an Avengers-level threat. Like seriously, a silverback ain't doing crap to 100 men in a fight (remember the whole 100 men vs gorilla debate?). But, first, let’s kill the King Kong image. The most common gorillas you see in zoos, which are the western lowland gorillas, tend to average around 310 lbs and stand about 5’6”. So, yeah, they might not be as big as you’d expect. People like Shaq, the Big Show, or prime Brian Shaw outweigh them. But, the Eastern Lowland Silverbacks are the big boys, averaging around 373 lbs. But, now, the main source of the glaze (the strength). You’ve likely seen claims like 'A Gorilla can lift 1,800 lbs over their head!' Guys, think about that for one second. That is the weight of a grown Bison. Are you telling me a gorilla is lifting a Bison? That is complete BS. No scientist has ever put a gorilla on a bench press, or even measured its lifting strength. Chimpanzee: If I asked you right now how strong is a chimp? Most of you would recite some inhuman, absurd stat like, 'They are 5 times stronger than a man!' To that, I say, you just got fooled by early 1900s hype. Let’s look at the actual data. Real testing that analyzed chimpanzee muscles and anatomy found that, pound for pound, a chimp’s upper body is only about 1.35 times stronger than a human of similar size. And emphasis on similar size. Do you know how big a Chimpanzee is? They weigh between 88-132 lbs and stand 5 feet tall. So, if we take a good sized chimp, about 120 lbs, and apply that 1.35x strength multiplier, along with muscle fiber concentration amounts, that means its strength is roughly equivalent to a welterweight fighter. So, how is a human vs chimpanzee fight looking? Well, the average man would lose to a chimp, but a professional fighter would most likely beat a chimp more often than not. Crocodilians (specifically nile crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles): On paper, they look like the ultimate One-Shot machine. But in reality? Not even close. We need to unlearn this myth right now: Bite Force does not equal Bite Effectiveness. Well, here’s the problem: A Croc’s jaw anatomy is basically two flat boards slammed together. And because their snout is so wide and flat, force is distributed over a huge area. Essentially, there is a reason why crocodiles rely on snatching limbs/ necks, aka large, grabbable targets, rather than hitting vital points. But honestly, the bite isn't even their biggest flaw. It’s the engine. Their reptilian blood makes them an Anaerobic nightmare. They have explosive power for the first few seconds, but lactic acid builds up instantly. They have zero gas tank and turn into sluggish logs after a few misses. Siberian tiger: A lot of people think it’s the largest natural big cat. But it isn't. In fact, Siberian tigers are actually smaller on average than South African lions acording to modern research. But, of course, they are the apex predators of their terrain, but the internet thinks they are out there 'machine-gunning' bears daily. A diet study showed that nearly 99% of their prey items averaged 220 lbs or less. In fact, roughly 74% of their kills consisted of just three species: Wild Boar, Sika Deer, and Roe Deer. Basically, they are hunting medium-sized ungulates. Don't get me started on the whole Siberian tiger vs Brown bear thing. I’ve made so many videos on this. Context matters. Tigers almost exclusively target sub-adults or hibernating bears. They are not looking for a fair fight with a full-grown male Ussuri Brown Bear. If they tried that, they would get clapped. That goes the same for any tiger vs grizzly bear or tiger vs polar bear debate too. Honey badger: The meme says 'Honey Badger Don't Care.' Well, science says Honey Badger Cares A Lot. And infact, a healthy human could easily take one in a fight. First, let’s get a reality check on size real quick. The internet talks about them like they are wolverines on steroids. Reality? They are a 13 to 30 lb weasel. That’s it. Long-term research from the Kalahari explicitly describes Lions, Leopards, and Hyenas preying on them. In fact, that same study reported an annual adult mortality rate of roughly 34%. Yeah, If you were actually invincible, you wouldn’t be clocking one‑third annual mortality as an adult.
