Description
The nearest star to our Sun is 4.24 light-years away. That sounds close, until you realize that Voyager 1, after nearly 50 years of flying, has crossed less than 0.07% of that distance. The nearest stars aren't a neighborhood waiting to be explored. They're a wall.
In this documentary, we journey outward from the Sun, system by system, to reveal what actually surrounds us. Proxima Centauri, a violent flare star with a potentially habitable planet we can never visit. Barnard's Star, where four tiny scorched worlds were just confirmed in 2024 and 2025. Luhman 16, a pair of brown dwarfs six and a half light-years away that nobody noticed until 2013. A solitary brown dwarf colder than a freezer, floating seven light-years from Earth. Wolf 359, a star that erupts with sterilizing radiation without warning. Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, which isn't even among the five closest systems.
The local stellar neighborhood is not a chain of reachable destinations. It is sparse, dim, hostile, and separated by distances that no human technology can cross. This is the universe's first demonstration of the scale problem, and it starts closer to home than you think.
