A Pangolin Mother’s Fight to Protect Her Babies

One night. Four deadly predators. One mother with no teeth, no speed, and no way to fight back. Meet Imani, a Temminck’s ground pangolin in labor. To reach safety before her pup is born, she must survive a hyena clan, a pride of lions, a swarm of aggressive soldier termites, and a stalking leopard. Her only weapons are her armor of overlapping keratin scales and one ancient instinct: curl into an unbreakable ball. Watch how that defense turns away the strongest jaws in Africa, and how a newborn pup enters the world in the darkness of a deep burrow. But this survival mechanism carries a tragic cost. The same curl that saves Imani from predators leaves pangolins helpless against humans, which is why they are now the most illegally trafficked mammals on the planet. In this video: How a pangolin’s keratin armor works Why a hyena’s bite force could not break her How she fed on attacking termites while in labor The leopard chase and the narrow escape underground The birth of a pangolin pup The sad reality of the global pangolin trade If you enjoyed this story, please LIKE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE.
