A Desert Parent’s Impossible Choice: Roadrunner Fights for Its Chicks

A bird that weighs no more than a soda can is about to be hunted by three of the deadliest killers in the Sonoran Desert: a four-foot western diamondback rattlesnake, a starving coyote, and a strike team of five Harris’s hawks. Watch how Sage and Mesa, a pair of greater roadrunners, protect their nest, their eggs and their four chicks using speed, courage and clever survival instincts. In this wildlife documentary story you will see: How roadrunners warm up in the cold desert using a patch of black skin on their backs How a rattlesnake tracks body heat in the dark How a roadrunner defeats a venomous snake How a coyote and hawks hunt together without planning it How a parent decides when to run and when to stand its ground In the desert, survival does not belong to the fastest or the strongest. It belongs to those who know exactly when to run, and exactly when to stand their ground. 👍 Like, share and subscribe for more wildlife stories. 💬 Comment: would you run or fight?
