Description

What if the answer to "Who am I?" was worked out over 2,000 years ago — and never actually improved on? In this video, we explore Vedanta Darshan, one of the six classical schools of Hindu philosophy, and the profound teaching at its heart: that your innermost self is not separate from the ultimate reality of the universe. We trace Vedanta from its roots in the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras of Badarayana, through the Bhagavad Gita, into the three great schools that shaped Indian thought — Adi Shankaracharya's Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism), Ramanujacharya's Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-dualism), and Madhvacharya's Dvaita (dualism). Along the way, we tell the ancient story of Uddalaka Aruni and his son Shvetaketu from the Chandogya Upanishad — the origin of the famous phrase "Tat Tvam Asi," or "That thou art" — and unpack the concept of Maya through the classic rope-and-snake illusion. This isn't philosophy for its own sake. We also look at how Vedanta applies to real, modern life — grief, parenting, job loss, and loss of loved ones — through the lens of the Bhagavad Gita's teaching to Arjuna, and the practice of self-inquiry (Atma Vichara) carried into the modern age by Ramana Maharshi. In this video, you'll learn: What Vedanta Darshan actually means and where it comes from The three foundational texts of Vedanta (the Prasthanatrayi) The three major schools: Advaita, Vishishtadvaita, and Dvaita The story behind "Tat Tvam Asi" (You Are That) What Maya (illusion) really means in Vedanta How this 2,000-year-old philosophy applies to everyday modern life If you're drawn to ancient wisdom, Indian philosophy, and ideas that actually change how you live — this one's for you. 🔔 Subscribe to Vedic Discovery for more explorations of Vedic philosophy, Hindu scriptures, and timeless wisdom for modern life. 📌 EXPLORE MORE ON VEDIC DISCOVERY ▶ [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvbGwwC3orA4Scj6VdpTyT3QeV86_GcEJ— The Six Darshanas Explained] ▶ [https://youtu.be/Qmvu3_SXfDo — Another Upanishad story] ▶ [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD_Twym7orD8 Playlist — Ancient Indian Wisdom Stories] #VedantaDarshan #AdvaitaVedanta #HinduPhilosophy #Upanishads #SanatanaDharma
