Description

Ravana — king of Lanka, scholar of the Vedas, and one of the greatest devotees Shiva ever had — once made a mistake so arrogant it became legend. Refused entry at the gates of Mount Kailash, he decided he wouldn't wait. He would simply lift the mountain, and Shiva along with it, and carry them wherever he pleased. What happened next is one of the most extraordinary moments in the Shiva Purana. Shiva didn't move. He didn't speak. He simply pressed one toe onto the mountain — and the weight of it pinned Ravana beneath the stone, screaming in agony for days. But agony, in the right hands, becomes something else. Trapped, crushed, and utterly humbled, Ravana composed 17 verses on the spot — verses so beautiful, so devotional, that they're still recited today as the Shiva Tandava Stotram, one of the most powerful hymns in all of Sanskrit literature. Moved by what poured out of him, Shiva released him — and gave him a new name. This is the story of how the most arrogant being in the three worlds became one of its most devoted poets — and what it still has to teach us about ego, pain, and what rises out of us when we're finally brought to our knees. 🔱 Sources: Shiva Purana, Ramayana 🔔 NEVER MISS A STORY If this story moved you, subscribe to Vedic Discovery and turn on the bell notification.
