Description

Humana is ending the Medicare Advantage plans of about 600,000 members on December 31, and the letters are dated October 2, so they're arriving this week. If one comes to your house, don't throw it away. It's your proof for a right most people on Medicare never get: a Medigap supplement with no health questions. Here's what the letter means, how to tell which kind you got, the dates that matter, and the mistake that leaves people paying full price at the pharmacy in January. WHAT TO KNOW • Humana will stop offering plans that cover about 600,000 members in 2027, about 8% of its Medicare Advantage members. It expects about 4 in 10 of them to choose another Humana plan. Other companies are closing plans in some counties too. • Two kinds of letters: "your plan will not be offered / is ending" (a non-renewal, with special rights) and "your plan is being combined / you'll be moved" (a consolidation, with no special rights). Read page one. • Your supplement right (guaranteed issue): from November 1 to March 4 you can buy Medigap Plan A, B, D, G, K or L (C and F if you were eligible for Medicare before 2020) with no health questions. Send a copy of your letter as proof. • Your windows: open enrollment October 15 – December 7 (coverage starts January 1), plus your own special window December 8 – end of February. If you do nothing, you're in Original Medicare alone on January 1, with no drug plan. • 2027 numbers: Medicare Advantage out-of-pocket limit up to $9,850 in network ($14,800 combined); Part D deductible up to $700; Part D yearly cap $2,400. FREE HELP (nobody here sells insurance) • SHIP — free, unbiased Medicare counseling in every state: shiphelp.org • Medicare Plan Finder (2027 plans from October 1): medicare.gov/plan-compare • 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) CHAPTERS 0:00 The letter 600,000 people are getting 1:04 Why Humana is dropping 600,000 people 2:37 Two kinds of letters: which one is yours? 3:39 The right almost nobody uses: Medigap, no health questions 4:42 Your window: November 1 to March 4 5:40 The February trap 7:19 The date to circle: December 7 7:33 The replacement plan: check this number first 8:44 In the hospital, in treatment, or on a retiree plan 9:47 Use your dental and OTC money before December 31 10:07 The scam calls that come with it 10:36 How to choose your new plan 11:41 Your calendar, date by date 12:40 No letter?
