Description
This is the story of China Eastern Airlines Flight 5735. On the 21st of march 2022 a boeing 737-800 was on the ground at Kunming international airport with the flight headed of Guangzhou international airport. In china. On this channel Ive covered a ton of crashes from tons of countries from the US and Canada to india and pakistan to Australia and New zealand. But not a whole lot of chinese crashes and if i remember correctly this should be my first video on a crash that happened in china proper. This is because the chinese along with the turkish are very secretive about what they put out. Final reports are not usually published to the wider public. That kind of makes it hard to figure out what happened for the outside world. It is in this context that flight 5735 took off into the skies of kunming on that day with 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board. The 737-800 was a trusty bird having only 11 fatal accidents out of over 7000 planes being delivered. The reliability meant that this plane even though being almost a decade old should fly with no issues. At the helm of flight 575 was a caption who was one of chinas most experienced pilots. He had 31769 hours at the controls and he was a flight instructor having trained more than 100 captains at china eastern. The first officer was less experienced, i mean almost everyone is incomparision to the captain. The first officer had 6709 hours at the controls. The flight also featured a trainee first officer who had 556 hours in the cockpit. The plane made its way east ward across mainland china and it was getting ready to start its descent into the Guangzhou. As the plane cruised at 29000 feet the all looked normal then the control surfaces on the plane deflect and the left wing pitches down. The roll doesnt stop and within seconds the plane is inverted. The plane rolled so much that the wings would have been level by now if it werent for the fact that the nose was now pointing straight down. The wings level off and the jet starts screaming towards the ground reaching a descent rate of over 30000 feet per minute as the jet rockets up to 386 knots. As the passenger plane goes through 17000 feet the nose starts to come up and the dive starts to shallow out. The nose is still down but the wings are level and it looks like theyre about to regain control of the plane. The plane loses its altitude and then when it hits 13000 feet in altitude flight 5735 rolls, this time to the other side. The right win is now pointing straight down., as the nose is pushed down. The frenzied dive resumed now peaking at 21000 feet a minute. After rolling onto the other wing the plane now starts to climb. Still rolling from side to side it goes through 7400 feet, 8000 feet, 8600 feet and then levels out for a couple of seconds. But it doesnt last for long the plane noses over and starts left bank. She rolls onto her right wing and then makes a right turn. The plane goes through its design speed and approaches the speed of sound in the dive. Flight 5735 then nose dived into a remote part of teng country in Wuzhou china. The impact was so sevrere that no one survived the crash. All 132 people on board did not make it.
The crash of floght 5735 ignited some fierce debate about the safety of the 737 series of airplanes. The 737 max crisis was fresh in the minds of the public. The first bit of information that came out about the crash other than the pictures of the crash site was some footage taken from a CCTV camera at a nearby mining operation. The footage raised some eyebrows, you see most planes are relatively stable meaning that if you let go of the controls and left the plane to its own devices its not going to nose dive towards the ground. It might roll lose control stall and then fall to the ground but it wouldnt nose dive to the ground. The reason for this is the because when the plane dives it picks up an immense amount of speed. This speed leads to more airflow over the wings and this airflow then means that the wings produce lift shallowing out the dive. But that didnt seem to happen with flight 5735. The footage showed the plane
