Join My Discord: https://discord.gg/kQggurk This is the story of malaysian airlines flight 2133. Malaysian airlines is a weird airline, I never really knew how weird until I watched this video by flight formula, if youve never seen it id say go give it a watch. That is after youve watched and liked this one ofcourse. They've gone from near bankruptcy to two fatal very high profile crashes in MH 370 and 17 and now theyre doing fine I guess. But that spark notes version of Malaysia airlines hides some history and that is where flight 2133 comes in. On the 15th of September 1995 a fokker 27 was on the about to make the flight from Kota kinabalu to Tawau in malaysia. The flight took it over some truly desolate parts of the malaysian landmass. Far from the glitz and glamor of kualalupur . The flight into Kota Kinabalu was a bit delayed but with some elbow gease and fast boarding the plane was able to get back in the air quite quickly. On its outbound leg from Kota Kinabalu the plane had 53 people on board. As the plane flew over the dense jungles of eastern malaysia, the pilots established contact with the tower at tawau “MH 2133 we are maintaining FL 170, TMA 40, VTW 0505, presently at 94 DME VTW” the controller at Tawau told them that the weather at the airport was good. A calm winds more than 10 kilometers of visibility bit of rain to the north and north east with broken clouds at 1600 and 2700 feet. At this point a couple of planes were converging on tawau a cessna 206 flying along the same route as flight 2133 and a Malaysian airlines 737. The controller was handling all the planes and they all needed to start their descent at about the same time. The fokker was closer to tawau than the cessna but the fokker was at a higher altitude than the cessna. Ideally for separations sake it would make sense to get the cessna to descend first and then get the fokker to follow. But since the fokker was already ahead the controller asked the pilot of the cessna if he would have any issues with the fokker being first in line for the landing. So the fokker was told to maintain 10500 feet. The pilots decided to double check and asked “MH 2133 confirm maintain 10500 feet?” the TOWER then replied “Affirm maintain 10500 number 2 in traffic”. That wasnt what the pilots of the fokker were expecting so they asked again “MH 2133, 26 DME confirm we are still number 2?” TOWER – responded “That’s affirm 2133, Expected Approach Time 0520 hrs”. The pilots of flight 2133 then took the initiative and asked the pilot of the cessna if he had any problem with them descending through the cessnas altitude, with consent obtained flight 2133 was cleared down to 7000 feet. The plane was now getting close to tawau the airfield was in sight and they were cleared for the visual approach to runway 17. As the plane dropped throught 3500 feet the gear was dropped and the flaps were set to 25 degrees. But the plane was going too fast and they were too high on approach. The captain sensing that the first officer was a bit uncomfortable said ““Runway is long so no problem Eh”. Tawau had a runway that was 5600 feet long. Not super long but more than enough for a fokker 27. As the plane went through 2000 feet the first officer exclaimed speed, speed check, speed check Ah”. the plane was nosed over at 13 degrees and the rate of descent had climbed all the way to 3000 feet per minute. While they were less than 2000 feet off of the ground. The plane was screaming sink rate sink rate but the warnings fell on deaf years. The nose wheel first hit the runway and then the plane bounced the plane landed back on the runway and it bounced again then the plane settled back onto the runway but with only 800 feet of runway remaining. This plane did not have enough runway to stop, despite the captains beliefs they had run out of runway. The aircraft went onto the grass and hopped over the perimeter fence. The sad thing is that just beyond the perimeter fence was a dense residential area. The plane crashed into the houses and then instantly burst into
