Footloose 1984, Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, Sarah Jessica Parker It's the most famous dance movie of the eighties. And some of the people dancing in it weren't who you think. If you were there in 1984, you remember it. A drum beat. A pair of gold shoes. And a kid in a skinny tie, dancing alone in a warehouse because nobody was allowed to dance at all. Paramount released Footloose in February 1984. It told the story of a small town where rock music and dancing were against the law, and the new kid who decided to fight it. Kevin Bacon played Ren McCormack, the city boy who refused to sit still. Lori Singer played Ariel, the preacher's daughter with a wild streak. And John Lithgow played Reverend Shaw Moore, the man who wanted the music turned off for good. On screen, it was a story about breaking free.
