Lies of P: Overture and the Illusion of Mastery

Lies of P: Overture is a brutally difficult Soulslike DLC. In this video essay, we explore how Neowiz completely deconstructed the illusion of mastery I had over this game's combat. Neowiz had an impossible task when it came to Lies of P: Overture. They had to take what was already a nearly flawless game, make it better, and make it harder. However, they totally pulled it off. They took flawed concepts, such as the Black Rabbit Brotherhood and Simon Manus fights, and elevated them to much greater heights with bosses like Markiona. These improved fights pushed me to my limit and forced me to develop a far greater mastery over the Lies of P combat system than I ever thought I'd need. This culminated in the single-hardest boss fight I've ever had in the genre -- a 100-attempt odyssey against Arlecchino, the Blood Artist.
